Mozart's Laudate Dominum (Praise the Lord!)

Press Here to find out more about this classical painting.

The words to this song are found in Psalm 116. Here is the English translation:

Praise the Lord, all nations;
Praise Him, all people.
For He has bestowed
His mercy upon us,
And the truth of the Lord endures forever.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and forever,
and for generations of generations.
Amen.

Listen patiently, because after the solo, is a wonderful choral anthem that is very moving!

Beautiful!!

Emma Kirckby is an incredible singer who has devoted her career to the music of the Baroque period, early/mid classical (with the example you've provided) and much earlier genres from twelfth century plainsong ( through her affiliation with the Gothic Voices - specialist British medieval vocal group) through to that of the Renaissance. Fantastic!! I've been listening to her since my teen years back in the mid '80's.

Ah yes.....Emma Kirkby's voice is lovely. We have a video recording of "Messiah" from some years back (mid 'eighties, I believe) & Emma is the soprano solo in that production. Very enjoyable. We make a point to play that particular version each year at Christmas & Easter....my children have grown up with it, & we all love it!
