Still Here, Holding the Fort

Brunette, by Camille Felix Ballenger 1904

In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity...
Titus 2:7

I have been very busy this month, so I will share my society news so far and later post a lesson on homemaking and something helpful to those who are having to withstand pressure to leave their homes and seek employment elsewhere.

Oh, thank you! I am facing this right now. I went to college and earned a B.S. in elementary education and taught up until we had our first child. Now, I stay home, but due to financial struggles, feel pressure to return to school for my nursing degree to earn more money for our family. My heart is absolutely torn.

Hi Lady Lydia,
I am excited about your upcoming posts. Your posts about homemaking are *so* helpful to me and I'm sure, to countless other women who feel pressured to "get out there and earn." I even feel that pressure from my mother who was a homemaker. She feels I am placing undue financial stress on my husband. Your solid thinking about working at home has provided me with so much encouragement. Thank you so much.

Happy New Year! I am looking forward to your next posts, especially about women being pressured to work outside the home. You have already given your readers here a lot of much-needed encouragment and wisdom on the topic. Thank you!

By the way, I don't think you are alone in this being a busy season. Every time I turn around these days, there is something else to do! Trying to fit it all in between snow storms can be a real challenge this time of year in my part of the country, and we've got a lot more snow on the way.

Please please do post about the pressures facing us all in this time!

I have spent the last few hours crying over staying home these last 18 years. My oldest child is now finding that in order to go to college, the schools expect him to take out tremendous loans. Either that or they expect us to pay for his education and of course, we can't. My heart is broken.

Dear Anonymous,

Did you know that your son could CLEP his way through classes without taking out a loan? It is a much more economical alternative only paying about 1/3 or 1/4 of what you would pay going to college--also in a quicker amount of time.

Many blessings...

What a needful post!

Thank you for writing and speaking to these subjects. For those of us who are fulltime home keepers it is a breath of fresh are to realize someone else is doing this too!

I hadn't been able to write for ages, either and just am getting back into it today. Hope yours everyone's Christmas was good. We will look forward to a longer post from you, Lydia, when you can manage. You have influenced a lot of people, and many of us have taken baby steps and bold steps to reclaim our rightful place in life on the wings of your inspiring words. P.S. to the Aussie sisters on here; you are in many peoples' prayers, as we have seen some devastatingly horrific video on the news of the flooding in your country. I pray God will turn the waters back and keep you in His care.
