They lay on the skin or close to the skin and are not good in hot weather, or if you are of a certain age and getting over heated. It does not cling to the body. The dress is loose and so it does not crush the slip into the body. This slip kept me very dry in weather that was 108 degrees. I was very surprised. It did need washing after one wear, but the dress did not.
