Skirts and Blouses

Hello Ladies, to reinforce my point about being able to identify a lady, do a little research on YouTube for videos of Victorian street scenes in England and America, Canada, etc. in the late 1800's and early 1900's when the video camera first came to be.  It would be nice if we ladies would dress a little more "identifiable" ---well, in case we go missing ;-)

I would love to see the blouse with a skirt - any chance of a photo? I agree with these ideas in so many ways. Skirts are more modest in most occasions.

Lydia, have you ever seen the blog, "The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor"? It's a fun blog that covers the royals and their clothes for the different occasions. Very interesting and inspiring. Also, I had not thought about it, but you are right - all our lives, the white blouse was a staple and then it was gone. Well, for that matter, what I think of as blouses became scarce as hen's teeth. Now, there are just, "tops". Tops. As nondescript as the actual garment is that term. Formless and shapeless, aren't they? I have however, recently seen, though not in white, the kind of blouse you are wearing. Tomorrow, I think I will go to Walmart and spend a little money on myself, for a change, and get something new and pretty and feminine there. Thanks, as always, for the fresh and interesting points you make.

Emmarinda, My MIL used Loving Care, a non bleach, non peroxide temporary rinse, but it has disappeared. She said it made her hair softer. Gray hair is more coarse. So even when they used to color it white, it was to make it softer and shiny. It is hard to find the non peroxide rinses. You can type in "Non peroxide, non ammonia vegan hair color" and see what there is available. Natural Instincts used to be chemical free; not sure about it now but it was a temporary rinse that would wash out after a few shampoos. You can also do a search on how to make your own natural products for hair.

From what I've seen of the recipes online for hair color, people are mixing instant coffee and unsweetened cocoa powder in hair conditioner for various shades of brown hair. There are also recipes for blonde and black hair. One lady takes a large makeup brush and dabs cocoa powder on her dry hair in areas where needed. I bet that would be a distracting scent, wouldn't it...the smell of hot chocolate everywhere you go.

This one is from Pinterest:
Coffee hair dye! 1/2 cup coffee. 1/2 cocoa powder. One small package of instant coffee and squeeze about 1/4 cup of conditioner into the mix. Leave in for an hour then rinse out. Makes hair a few shades darker and very very soft and shinny! Do it a couple times a month and you won't have to spend money at the salon
For lighter color, Pinterest has some recipes using cinnamon. I wonder if cloves and nutmeg would work.

Thank you for the recommendation for the shirt at Wal-mart. I find it very difficult to find affordable clothing that looks nice and is decent. I'm afraid I have never been one to enjoy clothes shopping so any help is appreciated.

When I was teenager, there was a tv-show called "The Medicine Woman". Jane Seymour starred it. She had really lovely blouses and skirts all the time.

That's one reason so many women love the historical drama shows: the costume and the white blouse with the Victorian skirt.

I absolutely love Victorian fashions and I have a few beautiful dresses and pieces from that period.
