German Painting from the 1800's

Mittagsmahl auf dem Felde
by Rudolf Koller (1828–1905)  Germany

Here is another story in a painting. The husband seems to be taking a lunch break from the field he is working in, and the wife and children have brought lunch to share with him. It was really not that long ago that our mothers did the same thing when our fathers worked in construction or in fields away from home. I remember several picnics like this.

Story in Paintings

The Departure
by George Goodwin Kilburne (British, 1905)

Another 19th century painting with a story.  My guess is that the couple is departing from an inn, and the husband is having a closer look at the bill. What do you think? You may be able to get a larger view by clicking on the picture.
