Reading About the Home

Today I continued with topics from the previous video, and explained more about the concept of social things from the home in past centuries, vs. the modern practice of social life away from home, from Linda Lichter's book, Simple Social Graces.

I also read another chapter from Elizabeth Prentiss, "Stepping Heavenward."

Following this I explained more of my observations about the values of home and courtship in the movie Princess Cut. There should be a workbook to go with this with observations and questions about respect for parents and for potential mates, as well as what makes a young man or young woman suitable or unsuitable.

I also read the specific requirements of elders and deacons from 1st Timothy chapter 3, and suggested they are good characteristics for every young man to live up to.

This is for listening while you do things at home:

A Talk on Tea Time and The Home

All is well around The Manse today, so I have some time to talk to you.

Today I suggested that like exercise, housekeeping might begin with warm-up routines, consisting of simple jobs.
I read from Republic of Tea catalog, and a page from Kim Wilson's "Tea With Jane Austen

I read from Simple Social Graces, a history of courtship from the home.

I cautioned about using homeschool textbooks for knowledge while neglecting teachings on character.

I suggested you look up the different between mettle and metal, as well as privacy versus secrecy.

The audiobooks I enjoy while I'm doing my household responsibilities,  by Misty M. Beller, are HERE
She begins her stories with scripture, which makes me happy.

There are a lot more things on this broadcast besides what I listed, so put away the world and its stresses for now, while you listen:

A New Owner

We have a new owner. He has been walking alongside us outside but won’t get close. If we go towards him he runs away. But he seems to be guarding the Manse from afar. I don’t know where he sleeps or who feeds him. He won’t come very close but he watches everything we do. He doesn’t meow like a house cat. Rather, he screeches and cries. I don’t know how he survives in these cold temperatures. This week is supposed to be below freezing.

I haven’t forgotten you dear ladies and hope to be talking to you soon.

Keep Up the Good Work

Hello Ladies,
It’s still dark but I brightened a corner of The Manse for you.

I am planning to be back with a broadcast soon.

I appreciate you checking back with such patience.

I hope you can be encouraged in the things you are responsible for at home.

A Pastime

Greeting!

A pastime is an interest or something a person does for enjoyment, in the way of activities, creativity, or relaxation.

I have been quietly taking a sip of tea in unusual places where I cannot be detected.

So far, it has simply been in unusual locations around The Manse out here in the farmlands, but I am formulating some other ways to use this pastime and developing some new pastimes.

Sometimes I’m not ready to face the cold wind and rain and I do not get past the front step of The Manse.

It looks grim out there, but I like the contrast of the fancy, refined cup against the gloomy background.

I hope to get a broadcast for you soon. I have to get very creative in finding a place to do this, because once again the descendants have descended on me, to replace another cheap fragile, much patched and mended 60 year old window in the Manse.  I have noticed such a healthy difference in the house from the new windows. I’m not coughing at night or having dreams about sleeping under a tree 😌.

Last week I had a Thrive Class for one of my grown children, and this is what we did:

We ate breakfast
A pencil sketch of a cat.
We read aloud portions of Old World History and Geography, noting how both subjects are connected, and then we criticized the education systems that separate life into subjects rather than showing how subjects are knit together. 😊
We sang “O Sacred Head” and commented on the tune attributed to Bach.
Stretch exercise to strengthen and prevent injuries.
We had a cooking lesson made crackers
