A Serene Day at Home; Reading The Jane Austen Diet

Please enjoy your walking while you listen.

Today I read chapter 5, "Walk Like an Elizabeth"

from the Book

The Jane Austen Diet

by Bryan Kowslowski

Make your own home scent: in a small heat- proof container (I used a jelly jar) add a drop of flavoring from your kitchen supplies and a pinch of spice. Fill with hot water and set on a candle warmer to spread a nice aroma.
I used: drop of vanilla, maple
Dash of nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice
Dried orange peel .

Before potpourri, scented candles, melts and essential oils, we simmered fresh orange peel, cloves, vanilla and other combinations in a saucepan.
A tiny slow cooker or scent pot will also work for this.

Benefits of Walking for Enjoyment

This broadcast is a reading of one of the chapters of a book about the healthy habit of walking, using some history as a reference. It is good for listening while going about your life in the home.

The book I read from quoted physicians from current times and past times, promoting walking to reduce anxiety. I thought it was appropriate to mention it because of the abnormal amount of anxiety people are suffering these days.

I cannot give enough credit to the author of this book. It is very fine.

Prayer at Home

Enjoy being home while you listen:

Summary of Today's Talk:

*Thinking about some things while washing dishes
*Learn what times of the day are the best for you.
*Adjust your time to accommodate the most urgent things.
*Don't put your plans for the home on hold when hearing reports of trouble.
*Develop the ritual of being still
*Develop the habit of going for a pleasant, leisurely walk every day. If weather does not permit, walk within your house.

Hebrews 10:39:
But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

Investigate natural health for yourself. Here are a few subjects to learn about, in the effect they have on your well-being:

Awaken with thankfulness.
Effective breathing
Natural fibres in clothing, bedding, furnishings and other things in the home
Pure, natural food and water as close to nature as possible
Eating and drinking slowly
Substitute prayer for every anxious thought.
Intermittent rest
Good cleanliness habits
Good Humor
Activities that have meaning to you
Courtesy to those in the home.

Some I did not include in the talk: clean, fresh air, exercise, natural light

Value of Small-Talk in the Home

Please enjoy your home life while you listen to the Homemaker Radio:

You will notice I am sitting in the sea view room of my waterfront property 😊The noise you hear is ocean waves, not farm machinery.

Today I talked about  the use of "small talk" in responding with  those people who are so frightened of the current political situation,  they appear to be hostile, and I use Romans 15:1-7

I also mentioned my opinion and observation that when we don't agree with someone's narrative or try to share the truth, they sometimes react with fury or hostility.  I believe they may be reacting to the fear they have that the things they are hearing might not be true, and they have invested so much of their time listening to it or reading about it. If what they are believing is not true, their whole philosophy of life, which has become their idol,  crashes, and they have to think for themselves. Also, people living in daily fear, fed by media, may not know what to do if that crutch of fear is removed from them.

Cheerful Thinking

Please ignore the weather and enjoy your various tasks at home while you hear the broadcast today.

I've used this lovely statement in Proverbs 12:26:
Anxiety weighs down the heart,
But a kind word cheers it up.

Also I have attempted to explain several ways to keep the mind free of anxiety, and mentioned just a few, such as:

Do it yourself, as much as possible, or at least give it a try
Do something lighthearted
Create your own crosswords for your children and grandchildren, using memories of times shared together, special family phrases and family traits.
Learn things, even if just one lesson each: music, singing, speech, writing, art, exercise, architecture, sewing, and much more.

Do something excellent to improve the dwelling or to give your family a special holiday at home.
Develop a personal drive for excellence in what you do at home.
Discover mood lifters or mood levellers in the senses: sight, sound, scent, etc. for your daily life, when you are working, walking outside, or creating.
Keep your mind off the weather and on to your list.

Please make it your aim to listen less to the things that cause anxiety and participate more in the things that help you really thrive beyond what you ever planned.

Fun With Latest Restrictions

This has been going around, poking a little fun at the latest Oregon rules — no laws were actually passed. You will get a chuckle out of it too:

My comment: Everyone can be an exception to the rule!

So I think a LOT of people will be sleeping during the sermon all over the state this Sunday (see#2). Not only that, but the singing will be better because of individuals being more in the performance mode, and more men will volunteer to get up front to do things during worship (see#8). Some churches describe their acapella singing as a competitive sport, so #7 might apply for them. That ol' "get up and introduce yourself to the person next to you" ploy might come back in favor amongst preachers, see #6, and more people will take notes, maybe even bring lap desks or laptops to do so (#5).

  • Individuals, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask, face covering or face shield when in an indoor space unless the individual:

1.     Is under five years of age; unless an individual is using public transportation or in transportation hubs in which case an individual under two years of age is not required to wear a mask, face covering or face shield.

2.     Is sleeping.

3.     Is actively eating or drinking.

4.     Is engaged in an activity that makes wearing a mask, face covering or face shield not feasible, such as when actively swimming.

5.     Is in a private individual workspace.

6.     Must remove the mask, face covering or face shield briefly because the individual’s identity needs to be confirmed by visual comparison, such as at a bank or if interacting with law enforcement.

7.     Is practicing or playing a competitive sport at any level.

8.     Is performing, including but not limited to playing music, delivering a speech to an audience, and theater.

  • A person responsible for an indoor space must:

1.     Ensure that employees, contractors, and volunteers comply with this rule within the indoor space.

2.     Make reasonable efforts to ensure customers, guests, visitors and other individuals comply with this rule within the indoor space.

3.     Post signs at every entrance to the indoor space that face coverings are required as described in this rule.

Reading from 1868 Magazine

One small, positive thought
in the morning
can change
your whole day.

Please enjoy your home while you hear today's edition of Homemaking Radio:

In the video I read from I John 4:20.  Often people want to leave home for ministry, yet they lack the skills to live in harmony at home.

I also quoted the character of Mrs. Elton from Jane Austen's "Emma":

"I am blessed with so many resources  within myself, the world is not necessary to me. I could do very well without it."
