German Painting from the 1800's

Mittagsmahl auf dem Felde
by Rudolf Koller (1828–1905)  Germany

Here is another story in a painting. The husband seems to be taking a lunch break from the field he is working in, and the wife and children have brought lunch to share with him. It was really not that long ago that our mothers did the same thing when our fathers worked in construction or in fields away from home. I remember several picnics like this.

I do this with my husband! He works in an office building, however.

Thank you for sharing this lovely painting. I have done this with my husband at his office with our children. (well not all of them at once)

Dinner in the field or more accurately,
middle meal in the field.

I am enjoying this "story in a painting" series very much. Thank you for sharing these lovely paintings and the lessons they have to tell us.
