Pictures

I get inquiries all the time concerning the source of the pictures we post on the blog. Some of them come from the fine art section of Allposters. The Susan Rios prints are available to purchase at the following places:

When you visit these places, be sure to check out Thomas Kinkade, Sandra Kuck, and Robert Duncan, who have galleries there, too, including Thomas Kinkade. I think it is wonderful that these artists make it possible for their paintings to be enjoyed and appreciated online by so many people, and also that the subject matter shows the love of home and family, with the beauty of the earth.

Some of these pictures are inspiring me to grow out my hair very long again. Something about the flowing dresses and the beautiful long hair! So feminine!

Mrs. B....
My experience about hair is very similar to what you have written. Other woman just love and praise my hair cuts. And the articles and advice that woman look "younger," etc. in a short cut have always been in great abundance.
And then, the little messages that are said, by Aunts, friends, and the world, like, "Never let a man tell you how to do your hair."
I know I have heard this more than once while growing up. No other explanations are offered, just statements that cause you to be cautious later in life towards men, for no good reason.
When I was young, for some reason, my mother always cut my hair to a bob. At around age 6 or 7 I requested to have my hair grow out long. She didn't seem too crazy about it, but she consented.
I kept my hair long all the way up tthrough high school. Meanwhile, there was this subtle feeling that both my parents, my grandmother
(My Father, a male, included in this), just didn't really care for long hair either. When I finally cut it, the reaction from them seemed to be, Well, it is about time, you smarten up.... Oh they all loved it. Oh, how neat I looked, how the short cut compliments my features. As far as looks are concerned, the cut did look fine, but, I resented that long hair seemed so bad.
I don't feel quite as soft and feminine with short hair.
My husband is fine about my hair getting cut, even he will say, go ahead, it will be a fun change. And when he says it, I think he really means it, BUT, when it starts to get back to touching my shoulders, each time, I have had it cut...the same thing happens. My husband carresses my hair, and tells me how nice my hair is. "Wow, your hair is so nice, it is getting nice and long."
So. I think that has convinced me, he does indeed prefer his wife's hair long.
My sons always whined when I get my hair cut short. They put the guilt trip on me.
Speaking of my Mother, just recently, I was looking a wedding pictures of her and my Aunts. My Father's three sisters all had short hair on their wedding day. My Mother had beautiful long hair. I was admiring how lovely my Mother looked. Out of the blue, she blurted, "I wish I had had short hair like the other girls." I felt so frustrated. I told her that she looked lovely.
It just has always puzzled me, as to why many of the women in my life are so opposed to long hair. Even straggly long hair still looks appealing in my opinion.
By the way, I am the same anonymous that wrote of being inspired by the pics.

My daughter and I used to cut each other's hair when it needed a trim in the back, and it was so long we couldn't reach it. Now, her husband trims her for her. She can't take trips to hairdressers and neither can her husband and the 3 boys. It would keep them running all the time and cost them money. They got a home hair cutting system and they cut their own hair. There are books and videos you can get about cutting your own hair.

Long hair requires a little maintenance but not as much as short hair. I don't understand why women prefer short hair, when long hair can be made to look short by coiling it up with little claw-clips, and then you can have a variety of long and short styles. Short hair requires constant upkeep and it looks terrible in the morning before you wash it and fix it.

Oh, I forgot to say something when I was commenting before....Lady Lydia, you brought up an excellent point in your last paragraph about the versatility of long hair. It is also 'easier' because if I just don't have time to fix it I can just pull it back.

"Never let a man tell you how to do your hair." - posted by anonymous
I thought this was interesting because I can actually relate to this. One of my ex-boyfriends a while ago told me I should cut my hair short to look cute and contemporary. I was so shocked because I had long, shiny, thick, wavy black hair that I'd gotten compliments on my entire life. Eventually I decided to cut it to see how I'd like it. Well, he loved it, but I was horrified. Almost everyone (both men and women) agreed that I looked much prettier and more feminine before. My mother even stated that my boyfriend at the time must have been a very jealous man to prefer me looking so much less attractive! I also looked much older with the shorter hair. I was only 19 at the time, but I suddenly looked 25. I think the difference is MUCH more profound on older women though. I also felt like I somehow lost some of my identity. I had always been proud of my long hair, and I felt sort of naked without it. I grew it out as quickly as I could. Now, my husband absolutely loves my hair and tells me never to cut it.

I also definitely agree that money is a big issue for the hairdressers. I only cut my hair a few times a year, and my husband does it for free. I don't trust most hairdressers anyway. A few years ago, I asked for a trim, and the woman cut off six inches! I was so upset because it was only 9 months before my wedding, and I had been growing it for the wedding. Fortunately, my hair looked decent at the wedding (slightly past my shoulders).

I hope more women grow their hair long. None of the lovely paintings on this website would be so beautiful if the women had short hair. When I'm older, I also plan to keep my hair very long. I plan to let it go gray naturally and wear it in a braid. I think elderly women with long hair look so elegant and wise.
