Today I continued with topics from the previous video, and explained more about the concept of social things from the home in past centuries, vs. the modern practice of social life away from home, from Linda Lichter's book, Simple Social Graces.
I also read another chapter from Elizabeth Prentiss, "Stepping Heavenward."
Following this I explained more of my observations about the values of home and courtship in the movie Princess Cut. There should be a workbook to go with this with observations and questions about respect for parents and for potential mates, as well as what makes a young man or young woman suitable or unsuitable.
I also read the specific requirements of elders and deacons from 1st Timothy chapter 3, and suggested they are good characteristics for every young man to live up to.

Princess Cut was such a cute movie. I found myself admiring the mother/wife. I like that the writers/directors did not make her saucy or slightly defiant of her husband [especially in the scene where it was raining and Grace hadn't come home yet and wasn't answering her phone]. She remained sober, wise, dignified, and pleasant. Also, she did not appear majorly concerned with whether or not her daughter got married. I'm sure this wasn't the main point of the movie, but those were my takeaways. I imagine Paul would say to Grace, "to the unmarried...it is good for them to abide even as I" "the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit:" and "if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh:"
Loved all of your talking points. My son has always read to me while I work in the kitchen doing dishes and making lunch. It's wonderful. Can't wait to watch Princess Cut. We are so lucky that we have a room above our garage. It's now my husband's office, but after hs graduation my son will live there at least until he's 20, as his dad and grandpa both did to begin being on their own, save money, but still be under parental influence. We've told him since he was young that the Bible says he's not a man until age 20 and therefore we want him at home until then. He's all for it.
