The Tea Table

Every time I walk past this primitive bench in my yard, I think about making a tea time picnic on it---"someday".

This year, I have been making an effort to do some of the things I have thought about accomplishing; things I am always thinking about.

It has been easier and taken a lot less time than I supposed: just load up a few things in a tub, and make only one trip to set it all up.  I even had food and company for this one!

I like how the berry tea looked so bright in the cup, but the photo doesn't show it as pretty and strawberry colored as it really was.

We each sat on an end, with our place settings next to us.

The pictures are not as clear as I wanted them to be, but it is enough to give the idea of what I was trying to do.

I think it should be part of your daily list of things to do,not make a little time to do something peaceful.

The children created the seating area years ago as a conversation bench, and it has stayed there ever since that time. I don't have the heart to remove it.  Like the Edgar Guest poem says: "And gradually, as time goes on, ye find ye wouldn't part with anything they ever used---they've grown into yer heart"!

The basket as full of good food: chicken turnovers, pumpkin soufflés, red grapes and sliced garden vegetables with dressing.

Remember in spite of the bad news we are hourly assaulted with, the real news is what you are doing at home and what a nice life you can make for yourself and your family. We should all make the best of the time we have and the place where we live, creating happy memories for those we love.

Mat 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mat 6:34  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

This is such a lovely idea. And the luncheon sounds delicious! Thank you for the reminder to find moments of joy in each day. Living in the present is something I struggle with, because I am always wasting so much energy on worrying about the future. I am going to try my best now to come up with an idea for something to do just to enjoy life - I know there are many simple pleasures to be had but it's a real effort for me to get out of work and worry mode.

I just love being inspired to look around at what I have and create something beautiful. Even if it's simple, it's the experience that brings joy. Last night my husband heard there would be shooting stars so we laid on a make shift padded area on our driveway, with a sleeping bag on top. As we were watching the stars, it was amazing. Remembering as a child laying and watching the sky. Here I am, kids grown and we were doing something fun. It stills brings a smile when I remember the fun of something so simple.

Thank you for the wonderful inspiration.

Peace be with you,
Dee

How nice. You always take such care with each detail. You even brought out a vase of flowers. Now I'm hungry for chicken turnovers. :-)

You inspire me so much to look at my home through fresh eyes and see the potential. The tea table looks lovely and inviting! The care you put into the food preparation show the one you shared it with know how much you care for them, You not only make your day brighter but share the good feeling with others! Thank you for your generous spirit!

Such a sweet seating bench your children originally thought of making! How clever of them. And then you topped it off with a beautiful teatime arrangement! More cleverness from the Sherman family! Just wonderful!

Oh Lydia,

How ingenious of you to make a tea table and picnic spot from a child's seating arrangement. I am convinced you could make a tea table and picnic spot from anything. My mother always said, "where will there's a way". With all the tragedy and chaos going on in the world, you have proven again that we can have peace in our lives.

Jesus said he came to give us peace, not as the world's peace, but the peace of God.
You have proven that we can all have that peace if we will. The peace that passes all understanding.

Thank you again for demonstrating that to us. So look forward to your posts.

Blessings, Janet.

I love your outdoor tea table. What a lovely place to sit and enjoy
fresh air. I know that through the years as I have been following your
blog you have inspired me so often. Each day holds many gifts yet
to be opened if we will just stop and open them. It is so true that
bad news abounds and seeks to trickle into our homes, but we have a choice. We can
leave it out. It doesn't have to disrupt the peace and tranquility
we are seeking to create. Love Kelly
