Getting Ready

Hello Everybody,

I'm so happy you stopped by on New Year Eve/Day to listen today and I hope it is productive for what you want to accomplish in your home. We are being quiet at home during this annual celebration.

I read from Linda Lichter's "Simple Social Graces" a quote that needs a fair amount of mental pondering. It explained the effect  the virtues of nobility, responsibility and self restraint had on the feelings of self esteem and personal happiness.

I also read another diary episode from 1831 "Stepping Heavenward."

Please enjoy whatever you are doing while you listen to this episode:

Just for that I might look into finding some hymns about peace to put in the broadcast. I’m hoping to post on New Years Day or shortly after

Dear Mrs. Sherman

Please repeat and repeat some more the wonderful instruction.

I am one of your Homeschool Students. I am wife to a wonderful blacksmithing husband and mother to two beautiful girls. I use your encouragement and book recommendations to help me as I look to the ways of my household.

I don't tire of your classes. I especially love it when you read the scripture and pass on solid uncommon common sense.

Have a wonderful New Year.

Sincerely

Cristy Walker

Dear Lydia,

I really enjoyed this broadcast. I love my Monday mornings. It's when I get my basic house cleaning done and listen to my favorite Homemaking Radio broadcast. What I really love is that if I listen to you while I am cleaning, I don't get near as tired when I am done. Maybe because I am not rushing just to get things done, I don't know, but I am appreciative.

The beginning of the video was such a delight to me. Seeing you puttering and preparing. I felt a sweetness to see you do so.

There were many points in today's broadcast, but the one that stood out to me is the social piece of teaching our grandchildren the basics that they seem to not be getting for some reason or another.

Recently my husband and I went to see my daughter and grandson for dinner. She lives in an old house and is not very proud of it, but I try to lift her up in regard to her creative ways she decorates.

This particular night, my grandson (7) came to the fence to meet us and I was uncertain about walking the path in the dark. So I reached out and held his arm to steady myself. He looked at me funny until I explained a "gentleman would always hold his arm out for a lady so she will not trip or fall." He beamed and stood up a little taller. Though, remember he is 7, before we got to the porch he got excited to show me something and dashed off.

I love taking moments to teach simple things.

Blessings to you, and I am so glad you are getting new windows. We got new windows when we lived in Ohio. Our house was a 1926 house with original windows. The first winter my curtains moved inside while we ate dinner. That became our first savings and project!

God's peace be with you,
Dee

Im finally caught up on your videos, and they are just so much fun. Love listening to readings from simple social graces, I've always loved the Victorians. Also love hearing about Wives and Daughters, such a great story . I worked on embroidery while listening and also had a cup of jasmine tea. Thank you Ms. Lydia 🙏💐🌹🌻🌸🤗
