Gathering May Blossoms, from Allposters.com
It seems that I cut this garment out way back in March. Every time I decided to finish sewing it, things needed to be done, immediately, and the days passed by quickly. I finally got it finished, and have some photos. A blogging friend sent me the fabric.
I used a 1990's pattern with a curved low waist, and I added the ruffled neckline and took sleeves from another pattern. We have had a couple of decades of boring sleeve designs so I have gone back to the older sleeves with gathers and puffs, tucks and ruffles.
I attached a spring of silk apple blossoms on to a hair comb, which will look okay aside a french roll hairstyle.
When I took a piece of the fabric to match possible buttons or trims, I bought a roll of this ribbon which I thought was very complimentary of the fabric,
However I couldn't decide if the dress was better looking left plain,
orI should sew the ribbon on the sleeves,
Or maybe around the skirt. I liked the dress better without trim.
For once in my life I am ahead of the season, because the apple blossoms are not in bloom yet. I missed the lilac blossoms, although I have a piece of lilac print fabric. The seasons pass way too quickly!
I have a scripture today I am sure applies to ladies everywhere, (except for the ones who never worry!)
Php 4:6 Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Mat 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Mat 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Mat 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Mat 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Mat 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Mat 6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Mat 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Mat 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mat 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Apple Blossoms and Hummingbird by Martin Heade, 1875
While it is our duty to plan things and have projects going for future use, if we are waylaid or cannot complete things, it is not helpful to worry. Worry can be a habit that is difficult to dismiss, because it starts a type of chain reaction consisting of thoughts that trigger worry, and worry that brings on more thoughts of defeat. Worry is like an addiction: when you are ready to quit it, it is not ready to quit you!

Very pretty dress! You are such a skilled dressmaker - wish I lived in your area and you gave lessons!
I like the apple blossom fascinator that you made to go with the dress. It is very pretty!
Dear Lydia, I think you have the perfect neckline and the sleeves are so interesting. You are right that so many sleeves anymore are so plain. I think the fabric colors will look great on you! It does feel so good to finish a project! Thank you for the scriptures you shared as it is always fashionable NOT to worry :o)
Yours, Roxy
I love the dress! The print is so feminine. I do wish we could buy dresses like that now.
You are so talented.
Thank-you for sharing!
Linda
Your new dress is lovely, so feminine, I don't think it needs the trim either
If you had some time, I´m sure many of your readers would be very interested in seeing you dressed for daily errands, I mean, to give us some ideas of how to combine basic clothes to get a lady-like result. I think that would be really helpful.
Thank you so much for your inspiration.
Thank you again for the gift of the fabric. Also the dress looked best without the trim. And yes I would be willing to at least sketch out daily wear at home in relation to my sewing.
