Listen to "When Queens Ride By" written in 1932

Ladies, please listen while do your homekeeping/homemaking.

It is printed online here

It was also made into an episode on The Loretta Young Show (and I once saw it) around 1962, but seems to be an unavailable episode. I'm continually looking for it.

In the video I read from the story that it was written in 1888 but another source said 1932.   I think the latter is more likely because of the way she described the cars on the highway.

I just love the story "When Queens Ride By". I bought the little pamphlet book years ago and have always hung onto it, re-reading it once a year or so.
Thank you so much for making your videos! I turn it on while I do housework and just really enjoy your wise and gracious counsel. I appreciate the time you take to make yourself so pretty for us to look at and the environment of your home. You are most appreciated!

OH LYDIA, what an excellent story!!! Thank you very much for sharing it! It is a difficult decision to choose to support our husbands through trust and love versus bringing a paycheque and this story captures beautifully, the angst in making the decision.

Rachel, Robyn, thank you for coming to see me!! I will be reading "The Wife" by Washington Irving, soon, and also the "30 Things to Do at Home" that I wrote here years ago.

Dear Lydia,

You radiate with happiness despite the trials of our present day. Thank you for giving of your precious time to read this beautiful, touching story.
Jenny began to learn the lesson of happiness by giving of herself in a way that was totally foreign or forgotten. As a result, her outlook changed and her husband’s attitude about life took on new meaning as well.

I want to make sure others reading this will not take my comment the wrong way. Happiness is not the goal; walking daily with the Lord through the storms of life is. Living with hope despite adverse circumstances, causes us to experience happiness and joy along the way.

Thank you for making my day brighter and happier, Lydia.

Blessings,
Holly

Since 1929 (the Depression) the women in our family have worked outside the home. Husband and wife relationships were not great and neither was mine in the beginning. I’m the fourth generation of those women who worked outside the home and it has taken me forever to believe that it’s ok to be home to take care of my family. I never dared to share this desire to my mother to be a homemaker. When my husband and I got married we felt called to be generation changers. It’s been a constant fight in my mind that it’s OK to desire to be keepers at home and that I’m not lazy or selfish to want to take care of my family. “When Queens Ride By” is a story that speaks to my heart tremendously. You see, I was a Woman Marine when I met my husband. I’ve been home since my second was born. My husband is my greatest encourager. I will always remember the significance of your story. Thank you for your time and beautiful example of a Titus 2 woman, Mrs. Sherman. Peace be with you and yours! Many, many thanks!
