The Home as a Retreat, The Gift of Time

Ladies at Home, I hope this helps you get your routine going today. As I mentioned that my house was shaped like a train, I included a video at the end of this post, of The Royal Scotsman train.

Dear Mrs. Sherman,
I'm listening to your video as I work in my kitchen. Thank you so much for responding so promptly about the vinegar. I truly appreciate your perspective and your advice.
I'm so thankful for the time you spend talking with us. I am an older homemaker, 54, but I never had anyone teach me how to keep house. It was a struggle throughout the children's younger years. I'm getting better organized and much better about fixing myself up nice early in the morning. I have found that if I make myself stay in the bathroom until I get my make-up on after showering, I have much better results. Once I'm out of the bedroom, I am on duty as far as the family is concerned. ~smile~
I have two daughters, both college age, at home. I hope that they will one day marry, become mothers, and stay at home and teach their children. My husband insists that they be prepared in case they do not marry. It's hard raising children isn't it?

Well, as late as it is, supper is nearly ready. My husband is working late tonight.
Have a lovely week.
Sincerely,
Laura Lane

I cleaned off and rearranged my porch today while listening. I am going to paint a chair that goes on it next, and wash off some more surfaces. My sons washed the mats and I gave my new fig starts some sun on the porch while it was warm! I got a Chicago Hardy and a White Marseilles. I already have a Celeste, but no mature figs on it, maybe this year! I also got some Ouachita thornless blackberries. So much to look forward to! I want some Double Gold raspberries too. Julie.

Thanks for this, Julie. You mean all that while listening to this episode? I think I should try it!

Laura, Yes, if you leave the bathroom before you are completelt ready to face the world, its hard to get your appearance totally ready.

Dear Lydia,

Thank you so much for your beautiful videos! I look so forward to them! Today, I ironed some clothing, and cooked lunch. Since I make everything from scratch, I do spend a quite extensive amount of time in the kitchen. 😍
You inspire me so much, and I love your imagination! You bless my day so much, and sometimes if I have a big pile of laundry to iron, I listen to the video twice.
One of my favorite things, are the book recommendations.

Love and Blessings from Germany

(Since I am German, please excuse any spelling errors I may have made. My English is rather rusty)

Cosima, You have a great command of English, in writing. Thank for your comment, too, as its nice to know what people at home are thinking.

Dear Lydia,

I really enjoyed your talk yesterday as I brightened a little corner of my home with a promising spring time theme. Whenever I switch things around in the home, it gives me an opportunity to clean behind and under the things I am moving. It was a gray, dismal looking day outside. However, with you keeping me company and the energy I received by creating beauty in my home, it actually paved the way for a very productive day.

It is an honor to invite you into my home, Lydia. Your talk motivated me to check in those hidden places and clear the cobwebs out!😏Like you, I prefer home to any other place in the world. These videos are so very much appreciated and enjoyable to listen to as I work. Thanks again!!!

Blessings, Holly

Hello Lydia

This is day 2 of listening to your talk. Today I cleaned in my kitchen, made dinner, tidy up the house a little, and did just a bit of laundry. I am now sitting and getting ready to knit a bit while my supper is cooking. I put the heating pad on my back because it's a bit sore. Got to go. Laura

Dear Mrs. Sherman,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences through your housewife radio.
It was pleasant and refreshing to hear you describe the history of your teacup and to hear you read from the book you presented.
My husband and I plan to get that same book for our oldest son who turns eight in July.

We have three children, our two sons and our daughter, all of which I homeschool. While they were playing, I was able to fold a few loads of laundry that had taken up residence on our couch for about four days or so, thanks to your radio. We’ve just returned home from our oldest son’s first state chess championship tournament, which we made a family trip(save our baby girl who happily spent QT with her PawPaw and Grammy). I’m happy I was able to wash a few loads before we left and even more grateful that you mad folding those loads most pleasant!

I’m happy to state, you’ve gained a follower in me! I look forward to exploring more of your blogs and enjoying more radio!

Have a wonderful day,

Sincerely,

I ironed while listening and also worked on cleaning nooks & crannies on my kitchen appliances. In the Flylady plan, we're focusing on the kitchen this week.
One of your commenters some time ago recommended a cleaning solution of 1/2 cup of Dawn and 1/2 cup of vinegar, and I find that it does the trick! I've learned so much from your videos and writings.
I enjoy The Flylady, she taught me how to keep up with my home. I am an older homemaker, too, and never learned how to do it effectively. Once the children come, then you're behind the 8-ball on keeping up with things.
You do offer an improvement on one of her teachings, though...whereas she says to wear lace up shoes in the home, I am like you...I don't really care for lace up athletic shoes and you pointed out that wearing an ankle bootie was more attractive and practical. I agree!
I love the book recommendations, too!I plan to search for those books online.
God bless you and your miniatry!
Toni
