Today I did what you have been suggesting, work while listening. It was really very delightful. You ask to tell you what we were doing while listening. I swept and mopped our floors (funny because you were talking about sweeping while I was doing it.) Wrapped some presents. Dusted the living room. Put in a load of laundry,. And finished your video while doing the dishes.
I really enjoy your videos and today I got a lot done while listening.
I really enjoyed this video, Mrs. Sherman! I loved what you said about giving homemaking a good reputation out in the community! I had never thought of that, before! Some topics I would love to hear your thoughts on are: Exactly how did you create a home where your children loved to be? Did you set up activities/crafts/ things to do with them? And also, could you give those of us who are just common church-goers advice on how we can bless and minister to our pastors and their wives?
I so enjoyed the video, as I do all of them! I have a nightgown I made with the same 'China Blue'. Isn't it such a beautiful shade of blue?
I'm forever tickled when hearing you talk of negative, gloomy and argumental people. (Shudder) They are no fun!
What did I do? Well for starters, I listened to more than one, this one and the next two so that was very interesting and entertaining too not to mention encouraging. I excercised on my eliptical for 15 minutes, sewed two flannel baby blankets and put them together in cute little gift packets with matching toys and socks for my two little grandsons as a 'just because'. I composed supper, scrubbed a few pots and just did general straightening and some decluttering and of course washing a load.
I so agree with you on the ladies 'retreat's at churches, the ones with speakers. I privately feel like the little boy in 'The Emperors New Clothes' so many times because of the way I feel on things like that. I long for the days to just sit and have coffee with a true friend.
Please keep up the videos they are just wonderful and I often send the links in group text to my daughters who also enjoy them! Thank you for being you and sharing what many will not share. ~Amelia
P.S. I loved hearing your thoughts on 'The Magic of Ordinary Days'. We love that movie and I thought it was so neat that your mother looked like the character portrayed, she must have been lovely. My family called the fridge the 'ice box' too!.
I really like the lists you leave here, of all you get done!! I was busy yesterday doing similar things and stopping every now and then to jot down a note or two about things to talk about. Regarding the Magic of Ordinary Days I thought my father looked like Ray and my mother looked like Livvy, but also in those days people seemed to have a similar look.
I am so very grateful for your videos. I'm a product of the progressive 90s where I was told I can be whatever I want when I grow up. I immediately ruled out being a housewife as it seemed "beneath" me. Now in my 30s I'm homeschooling my children and am learning to really care for my home, husband and kids. I'm grateful for your Listen While you Work videos. It definitely encourages me that it's okay to stay home and it's a worthwhile endeavor to serve at home under the Lord's will. Thank you for being a Christian woman in a dark world.
Dear Lydia, As always, I was glad to listen to your housewife radio program. I look forward to hearing you speak, and it makes my work at home more efficient and enjoyable!! Thank you! I managed to put a meal together for dinner guests, swept, dusted, and cleaned the bathroom; I made my bathroom look like a 5 star motel by placing towels and wash cloths in an appealing manner! ๐I would have to agree wholeheartedly about the Women’s workshops. I never cared to attend these and be away from my children and home for that long. And yes, these meetings really don’t do much to inspire the keeper-at-home. I really am privileged to live at a time when I can listen to you teach me Titus 2 principles right in the privacy of my own home. Gratefully yours, Holly
Thank you again Dear Lydia for your videos. ๐ (I usually watch each one in parts.) You ask what we accomplish while listening to them…
Today – unpacked the groceries, had lunch, tidied, retrieved a small amount of washing from the line, folded it, ironed.
Yesterday, if I remember correctly, I washed the dishes, thoroughly cleaned the sink, sterilized the sponges, deep cleaned mugs reserved for visitors, cleaned out under the sink, tidied parts of the pantry, reorganized a top kitchen drawer.
Thank you for all your work. ๐ (Including all your articles over the years – such a blessing!)
I listened to this video in thirds - the first part while I did the dishes last night, the second part while I made breakfast this morning, and the third part while I made lunch. :)
I must say, I was chuckling at the part when you were talking about people who dominate the conversation, especially in the car. I happen to know someone just like that. ;) Too bad Mrs. Ethel Cotton was only advising us not to be like that, and not how to deal with people who never give us a chance to talk - or if she did do that, I hope you can share that information in the future! I am a fairly quiet and mild mannered person and sometimes it's a real struggle for me to get a word in edgewise with a person who is clearly in love with the sound of their own voice. :D
What a beautiful blue teacup and saucer! This has brightened my day already! While listening to you I have cleaned my kitchen counters, put in a load of laundry and made up some bird feeders with fat/seed mixture, as the weather has turned very cold all of a sudden and they are hungry! I particularly enjoyed your section on 'conversation hoggers' (we all know one or two, don't we!) you have some really useful tips on how to cope with these people. I have also noticed a tendency these days for the 'over sharing' of too much personal detail - it's very easy to get drawn into this, so thank you for the timely reminder to keep our homes 'our business'. Have a wonderful day Lydia.
Such an inspiring talk today. The conversation books you referred to sound so interesting. I’ll be looking them up. I also appreciate the advice on what to say when people ask personal questions. I made dinner while listening today.

It is called Lindy Ford Nutrition and Wellness on YouTube. I meant to add a link on the post and include two others.
