Today’s Activity

Thank you ladies for leaving your lists of things you do while you listen to homemaker radio. Radio has always been
preferred by those who like to work.

This is my list of things I did today.

Visited the garden market, where I bought a beautiful ranunculus plant:

Around the block from there was the Dollar Tree where I took a picture of these fabric quarters. Several of them ended up in my cart.

Baked
Laundry
Ironing
Sewing
Watched an Old movie
Sent a letter
Picked a fresh bouquet of yellow daffodils outside for a jar of flowers inside the house. The fragrance is so nice.
Read a few pages of a very pleasant magazine that was recently given to me. You can view some of the pages of this vivid publication here

I didn’t want the day to be over!

Your new plant is just beautiful! It almost looks too perfect to be real.

Hello Lydia,
Thank you for your encouragement in the videos you've shared in the last few months about raising children by allowing them to have happy, healthy, carefree childhoods. I completely agree with you! It's surprising to me how many of my peers place such heavy expectations on their children and overload them with activities. Then the parents are complaining about all the running around to music lessons and sports practices, etc. I have no judgment toward them, but am puzzled because the parents are the ones driving these decisions. A lot of the stress could easily be alleviated by allowing more time for children to simply be children, to play and rest at home. And allowing the parents to enjoy time at home, too!

I also value some of the insight you've given about relationships with women at church and even with family members at home. One thing I've been reflecting on is not correcting others for little, insignificant things. This just happened today when I ran into an acquaintance at the grocery store and she misnamed a street when sharing about a store she visited while doing her errands. I knew exactly the store she was talking about, but it wasn't important or necessary to interrupt her about the correct street name and so I didn't. The conversation was pleasant and I was glad that I had the gentle instruction from your video that prompted me to hold my tongue. There have been times in the past when I think I would have jumped in with the best of intentions but also not considering how the other person might feel about being corrected.

The other thing I've reflected on was what shared in your video on March 12, and maybe previous ones, about not wanting to encourage "criticism, complaining, or condemnation" of others in the home. This struck a chord in me, as things often do when you know they are rooted in Scripture. Immediately, Philippians 2:14-16 came to mind. We are to be shining lights to the world, both outside the home and inside the home. This starts with not having a complaining spirit or habit of arguing. It is really important to keep this in mind as my children are school-age and many of their childhood memories are forming now. I want them to feel the love of Christ in our home through us as their parents, not to fear being criticized or condemned at any moment. I also want to be a role model to be thankful and quick to find contentment in a variety of situations.

Thank you again for your continued encouragement. It is always good to have someone share a Godly perspective and I am glad to consider some topics that I hadn't before.

Blessings,
Jessica

I want to be sure that ladies understand they can let some things pass by and are not obligated to set everyone straight all the time. Let them tell their story and try to understand the main point. Children who want to confide and be good friends with mothers who are always correcting every tiny detail can get pretty discouraged and even depressed.

Hello Mrs. Sherman,
I am a long time reader of your blog and more recently I have been so blessed by your videos. I listen often while I work and look forward to it and am sad when it is over. I wanted to write you an email but I couldn't figure out how to do that. Is it possible that you could send me your email address?
Blessings,
Michele

Ms. Lydia, I remember reading a post you did several years ago, about a woman of royalty who lived on an island and it was invaded by Germany during WW2, but even in the crisis the woman didnt panic but carried in with her normal routine (which included tea time) and life was bearable for everyone...sort of "keep calm and carry on".

I dont know if I have the general details correct (above), but do you still have that post, and could you repost it or provide a link? I would re really like to share it with my 16yo daughter who is having some anxiety over the uncertainties that lie ahead, I think it would be a blessing to her.

I tried to google search but couldn't find it, and I dont see a search feature on your blog, so I'm asking here.

Thank you so much.

The article was called Dame of Sark, here https://homeliving.blogspot.com/2010/03/dame-of-sark.html I am not sure how to make the link work on a comment. You can buy the book on Thriftbooks and other places, maybe Abe Books and other low cost book stores on line.

There are two articles; One is called "Sybil Hathaway", and both are together on this blog. ALso there is a link on the "Dame of Sark" post to a place you can read the book online.

Use the search area on the upper left of the blog.

It sounds like a wonderful day. I never want for things to do at home. There are so many creative things, reading, and of course housework and cooking!
Be blessed,

Hello again,
I tried to click on the button on the sidebar that said "Email Me" and received this error message.

"There is no email program associated to perform the requested action please install an email program or if one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel."

I am not sure if this is a problem on my end or on the blog.

Here is my email is jmljrhope@gmail.com. I am not very tech savvy so I am not sure what to do.

Blessings,
Mrs. Michele Hope

Thank you! I was able to find the articles and my family thoroughly enjoyed the story. Amazingly, the free online version of the book has been taken down, and when I checked online to purchase a copy the price is prohibitive! I hope someone reprints the book and makes it available at a reasonable cost again. Meanwhile, when our libraries open again, I plan to borrow a copy through inter library loan and read it aloud to my family. Thanks so much!
